The Bearcat Varsity Girls Basketball team will travel to Andes Central on Saturday to participate in the Great Plains Conference Classic. The Lady Bearcats will play Corsica-Stickney at 11 am. Below is a link to the livestream; it is a Pay-Per-View Link that costs $8. This helps cover costs associated with the event. Congratulations to the Marion One Act cast, crew, and directors for an outstanding performance at the State One Act Competition in Brandon on February 1. Marion received eight Superior Acting Awards for their presentation of, "Elephant's Graveyard," by George Brant. Following are the actors receiving the Superior Award: Harley Crooks - Strongman Hadley Luke - Ballet Girl Isabelle McConniel - Ringmaster Emma McConniel - Engineer Kallie Johnson - Trainer Domani Butler - Hungry Townsperson Karley Luke - Young Townsperson Morgan Tieszen - Preacher Other members of the One Act are Finley McConniel - Steam Shovel Operator, Caden Tieszen - Marshal, Jackson Donlan - Clown, Liz Piehl - Tour Manager, and Avary Thomas - Muddy Townsperson. The Freeman Academy/Marion Bearcats Boys Basketball team will host Viborg-Hurley on Friday, February 2nd in Marion. A "C" game will tip at 5 pm. Followed by JV at 6:15 and Varsity immediately after. The Bearcats will travel to Flandreau Indian for a Basketball Double Header on Saturday, February 3rd. This will be Varsity Girls and Boys only (NO JV Games). Varsity Girls will play at 4 and Varsity Boys will follow. Good luck Bearcats! Due to sickness within the team, the Junior High Boys Basketball team will not travel to Centerville to play in the Great Plains Conference Tournament on Saturday. Players should hand their jersey to Coach Shape on Monday.

We're excited to share that Marion School District will be offering Drivers Education this summer. The classroom sessions will take place from June 3rd to June 6th (Monday to Thursday) at Marion School. The daily sessions run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and students are required to attend all four days for credit. To be eligible, students must be 13 years old by December 1, 2024. Those turning 14 before the class starts will be given preference. Please see the attached document for more information. If you are interested in your student enrolling please fill out and return to the Main Office by February 29th with your down payment.

The fourth grade class went to the Tieszen Memorial Home last week. The students got to play Bingo for the first time and it was a big hit with the residents. The students assisted them with their Bingo card. A fun time was held.

Congratulations to the Marion One Act cast, crew and directors for being chosen to participate in the State One Act competition. On Tuesday, January 23, the One Act team competed in Madison against six other teams in the region for a spot on the state docket.They performed Elephant's Graveyard, by George Brant. Outstanding actor awards were given to eight students: Isabelle McConniel Ringmaster, Harley Crooks, Strongman, Emma McConniel, Engineer, Kallie Johnson, Trainer, Karley Luke, Young Townsperson, Domani Butler, Hungry Townsperson, Liz Piehl, Tour Manager, Morgan Tieszen, Preacher. The State One Act Competition will be held February 1-3 at Brandon Valley. The One Act is directed by Sarah Schanzenbach and Nicolle Timmerman.
