Good morning, the Marion School District will be closing early today, Thursday, January 18th, 2024 at 1:00PM due to the current and projected forecast from the NWS. Along with the projected light snow are projected winds of 25-30 mph which will make travel difficult in and around the area. The Marion FCCLA will offer Valentine's Day flowers, balloons, pop, and candy. Order forms will come home with your child on January 19, 2024. Orders need to be sent to the school by February 9. All orders will be delivered by 3 pm on Valentine's Day.



Good evening, the unofficial bond vote results have been received. The school board will meet at 7:00AM tomorrow morning to canvass the votes.

Yes Votes: 199 = 51.42%
No Votes: 188 = 48.58%
The bond resolution failed as a 60% threshold was necessary. Thank you to everyone who came out to vote today.

Good evening, Marion School District will start two hours late tomorrow. Buses will be running where they are able, please communicate with your bus driver regarding road issues. Breakfast will be available from 9:30-9:50 so please plan accordingly if your child(ren) want to have breakfast. Due to the winchill warning with potential projected windchills of as low as -50 paired with county and township road conditions, the Marion School District will be closed tomorrow (01/15/2024). There will be no activities and no Bear Care. With this beign our third school cancellation we will now have school on Friday January 19th, February 9th, and now Friday, February 16th. Please stay safe! Additionally, the district would like to remind everyone about Tuesday's bond vote. We encourage all registered voters to visit the polling site (at the school) between 7:00AM and 7:00PM. Enter the NE entry doors (new gym entrance) and, after entering the first set of doors, take an immediate left into the polling room. Please stay safe everyone! Bear Pride!!!

If your preschool-6th grade child(ren) is interested in the cheer camp on January 28th please, have your form with payment turned into the main office on Monday (01/15/24). The forms were sent home on Wednesday (01/10/24). If you have any questions please contact the cheer coach.

The basketball games scheduled at Freeman Academy vs. Scotland on Saturday (1/13) have also been cancelled.

The Basketball Double Header at Flandreau Indian has been rescheduled to Saturday, February 3rd. Boys JV will tipoff at 4:00. Followed by Girls Varsity at 5:00 and Boys Varsity about 6:30. (NO Girls JV).

Good afternoon, due to the slight increase in winds, projected higher wind gusts for this afternoon, along with the NWS projecting heavier snow set to start today, the Marion School will be dismissing at 1:30PM. There will be no afternoon activities, elementary basketball in Bridgewater and wrestling in Chester have been cancelled (if/when rescheduled we'll communicate). The Marion High School One Act will be performing Elephant’s Graveyard by George Brant for the high school student body and the community on Monday, January 22 at 3:00pm and 7:00pm, respectively. On Tuesday, January 23 directors Sarah Schanzenbach and Nicolle Timmerman will take the 24 cast and crew members to the Regional One Act competition in Marion. The local performances will take place in the small gym, and a free-will offering will be taken.
*Elephant's Graveyard contains some sensitive material regarding animal cruelty that may not be suitable for students grade 6 and younger.

The Freeman Academy-Marion Bearcats Double Header Basketball game that was postponed on (1/09/24) vs. Avon in Marion has been rescheduled to Monday, January 29th. The games in Marion will follow the original schedule. 4:00 Girls JV; 5:00 Boys JV; 6:15 Girls Varsity; 7:30 Boys Varsity.


Marion Cheer Camp is for all preschool-6th graders. Sunday, January 28th 12:30pm-4:00pm at the Marion School. $35 per child this includes a meal with a cheerleader, shirt and bow. The cheer camp will perform at half time at the boys’ basketball game on February 2nd. Cheer camp forms will be sent home this week.


The Basketball Double Header vs. Avon in Marion has been postponed for tonight (1/9/24) and will be rescheduled to a later date. No other after school activities or practices today.

The Marion School District will be CLOSED today. Our second scheduled makeup day for closure is February 9th. School is now scheduled to be in session January 19 and February 9th due to these last two closures. Please stay safe!

The Marion School District will open two hours late tomorrow, Tuesday the 9th of January. With the 10:00 start there will be an opportunity for breakfast from 9:30 - 9:50. Buses will run approxiately 2-hours later than their normal schedule and if there is an adjustment in transportation, please communicate with your bus driver. Finally, with winter finally showing up, please remember warm/winter clothing and attire!
