Today the Bear Care students took a field trip to the Washington Pavilion to watch the Young People Concert.
Young People’s Concerts are designed for schools, homeschools, and families looking for an outstanding educational and engaging orchestra experience.

Scotland School is thrilled to once again host the local Area Band Festival, following its successful reintroduction in 2022!
Today, talented musicians from across the region will come together for a full day of rehearsals and collaboration, culminating in a special concert at 5:00 PM in the Main Gym. The festival features two ensembles: a junior high band and a high school band, each led by an experienced director.
Participating schools include Scotland, Bon Homme, Menno, Avon, Tripp-Delmont, Alcester-Hudson, Viborg-Hurley, Irene-Wakonda, Armour, and Parker. Students were nominated by their band directors for this incredible opportunity to learn, grow, and perform alongside their peers.

Exploring Light and Vision! 🌈👁️
Today, our students dove into the fascinating world of light and the human eye. We started by creating spectroscopes to discover the colors hidden in white light. They were amazed by how light splits into a spectrum, revealing the vibrant rainbow of colors that make it up!
Next, we learned how the human eye works by making a paper model of the eye. Using a magnifying glass as the cornea, we demonstrated how light focuses onto the retina, helping us see the world around us. It was incredible to see their reactions as they grasped how this complex system helps us perceive everything in such detail!

The Marion School Board has a vision and has set goals for the Marion School building. Although there have been a few "bumps in the road," the goal of updating the school has not been forgotten. Over the past (almost) two years, they have partnered with COOP Architects in hopes of bringing this vision to life. With a lot of hard work, we are hopeful that this summer will bring a renovation project to "refresh" areas of the building and help rejuvenate a facility in need of care and attention. The notice for bids is currently being advertised, with a due date of April 3rd. On April 3rd, the board will open bids and explore the next steps for starting this project this summer. 📚✨ Last week, the Marion School District celebrated Reading Across America with a week full of fun and excitement! 🎉 Our Preschool-5th grade students were treated to special mystery readers each morning, sharing beloved Dr. Seuss books. 🎩📖 The kids also enjoyed creating fun Dr. Seuss-themed crafts and projects throughout the week! 🎨✂️ The week wrapped up with a heartwarming Reading Buddies event, where parents, grandparents, and friends gathered to read to each other. Jeff Veltkamp from the South Dakota Community Foundation visited the Marion School District today and awarded our Bear Care Program with a $12,000 South Dakota Fund grant. We are extremely thankful for the Foundation's generosity and will look to utilize these dollars for additional staffing to provide even more personalized attention and support for students enrolled in the program. We're excited about all of the positive things happening with this Bear Care! Summer registration is currently open, applications can be found on our homepage (https://www.marion.k12.sd.us/ "clickable" link to the right entitled "'25 Summer Bear Care.") and turned in to the main office. The temperatures are beginning to drop and with the immense winds projected I feel it's safest to get everyone home sooner than later. With this, the Marion School District will close today at 12:45PM. There will be NO AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES or BEAR CARE. Thank you and please stay safe!
The Marion School District is exploring the possibility of partnering with the CTE Academy in Sioux Falls, SD and will be having an parent meeting (for current 9th-11th grade students) next Monday, March 10th at 5:15PM in the small gym. The Marion School Board has not approved this opportunity and is currently in the exploratory stage; however, it is being considered. The goal of this meeting is to provide parents with information regarding the potential offering(s), gauge interest, and answer any questions. Interested parents are welcome to attend (please bring your child/children to the meeting as well) or are encouraged to connect with Mr. Brosnahan if unable to attend. The school is also exploring the possibility of taking a group of students on a tour of the CTE Academy, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 13.
