The Marion Junior Class is hosting a homecoming tailgate with a potato bar for $8 at the homecoming football game on Friday, October 6th against Corsica- Stickney from 5:30pm-7:00pm in the old gym of the school. The game starts 7:00pm . Processed will go to the Junior class prom fund.

One FINAL thing I forgot to mention in the "Minute" was the Bobcat playoff soccer game taking place on Thursday! The Bobcats are hosting a home playoff game for the first time in many years! They play at Freeman Academy starting at 4:30 on Thursday afternoon!
The Freeman Academy Bobcats soccer team has reached the playoffs. They will take on the Belle Fourche Broncs. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 3rd. Due to the weather forecast, the game has been postponed to Thursday, October 5th starting at 4:30 at Freeman Academy.
There will be a concession stand serving grilled hamburgers, hotdogs and brats.

The Marion strength program is putting on a fundraiser to improve our weight room. Tickets will be sold at the Main Office or through Mr. VonBerge for $5 a piece or 5 tickets for $20. Tickets will also be sold at the Homecoming game on October 6th. Tickets will be sold until the drawing which will be after the first quarter of the game. The winner will be announced over the sound system. The winner of the drawing will have a chance to sit on the end zone on couches with pop, chips, and sandwiches provided. Homecoming week is October 2nd- October 6th, 2023. Coronation will be on Monday October 2nd at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Gym. The Homecoming Football game is October 6th in Marion against Corsica- Stickney at 7:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Movies”. Parade line up starts at 10:45 a.m. at the Tieszen Memorial Home, the parade will start at 11:00 a.m. The route will start at The Tieszen Home, down Broadway Ave, and will stop at the school. The Elementary will walk from the Tieszen Home and will stop on the sidewalk by the Kindergarten doors, so they can watch the rest of the parade. If you would like to have a float in the parade please contact Denise Pekron at 605-648-3615 ext. 1. Following the parade, there will be a Pep-Rally in the New Gym. The Sophomore Class is having a blast making infomercials for Speech Class. Their task? Convince their audience to buy a $100 pen using charisma, humor, and the three appeals of rhetoric -- ethos, logos, and pathos -- all key elements of successful public speaking.
***Reminder*** The Marion School has an early dismissal (1:30) tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 21st as conferences are being held from 2:30 - 8:00PM. Parents/guardians, elementary conferences are held in their respective classrooms, while middle and high school teachers can be met with in the main gym. We will be serving staff a meal between 4:00 and 4:30 so we do ask for your patience if you come during those times. Finally, If you are a parent of a Title I student (those students who work with Mrs. Wieman), she and I would like to invite you to learn more about our Title I program and answer any questions that you might have. The second graders started their "Material Magic" unit in science today. They pretended to be stranded on an island and had to use the materials found on the boat from the remains of their lunch to design a hat. They were very creative!

Just a few things to communicate:
1. Tomorrow is our first Friday help-day. Teachers are communicating with students/families and working out rosters for the morning.
2. It's crazy to think that we're talking about mid-term/conferences already, but we are. Mid-term is the 20th (first grade checkup for eligibility) and conferences are on the 21st. starting at 1:30.
3. If you are a parent of a Title I student (those working with Mrs. Wieman), she and I would like to invite you to learn more about our Title I program and answer any questions that you might have. That meeting will be on Thursday evening, Sept. 21st at 5:30PM in her classroom. We would love to see you there!
4. Co-Op Architect Master Planning - Please watch our Sept. 6 board meeting which is where Marion's board heard Co-Op's presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0qAgPUNsOo&t=2222s. At our last board meeting on Monday evening, September 11, the board unanimously voted to move forward with phases one and two of the Master Plan recommendations. I am working with Co-Op Architects to set up two (at least two) public meetings to keep the community informed on the specifics of the project and further outline its scope and hopefully receive input and support for moving forward. There will be more to come on this and we'll keep you afloat of things as we get more info. Thanks everyone and have a great weekend!
The music department is in need! Does anyone have any 5 gallon buckets they can part with? Our 6th grade students have been working on rhythms to do a unit on bucket drumming and would love if anyone has any extra that they wouldn't mind sharing! Buckets do not have to be brand new, but clean enough to be brought into the classroom and utilized upside down to drum on.
